What is a “Retic”?
Reticulated Python (Python reticulatus)
“Reticulated pythons have long captivated their audiences with their large, muscular build, gorgeous iridescence and the beautifully patterned skin that they were named for. Long thought of as aggressive, ill-tempered snakes- they now (because of captive breeding) have a reputation as easily cared for, highly intelligent, and rewarding captives.”
Excerpt from: “Reticulated Python – Care Information”, graciously contributed by Jay Brewer, and the great folks at Prehistoric Pets.

What is “Retic Life”?

Well, if you ask us, and many people we know, it’s the best way to spend our time on this earth!

Not everyone understands our passion for these amazing animals, but those of us that share it know how incredibly fulfilling it can be to live the Retic Life.

Whether you are a breeder or keeper, hobbyist or professional, or don’t keep or work with them at all, but find yourself drawn to these majestic creatures, you are a part of the Retic Life!

This should be celebrated! Often, and with many people!

This is exactly why we decided to start this company.

Through the years, we’ve worked with all kinds of breeders, keepers, pet shops, suppliers, veterinarians, herpetologists, educational organizations/institutions, and more. The one thing we’ve not really come across is a way to bring all of these things together at a higher level than simply doing the necessary business involved in keeping reptiles, amphibians, and other exotic pets. Not at a large scale, anyway.

The elephant in the room

As much as we have great conventions and trade shows (Repticon, NARBC, etc), those only happen once or twice a year in each area. In between, we tend to do what our animals do – crawl back to our safe place where we can live out our passion… quietly.

Not all of us, true. But most of us.

We would like to change that, and in very positive, public friendly ways, through events/event support, outreach, and educational programs. We also want to be more visible and accessible to the general public. To accomplish that, we intend to create products and services that will help promote curiosity, instead of negativity, so that we (you, me, and everyone else that shares our passion) will have the opportunity to dispel some of the false information about these wonderful animals and the people that work with them.

You’ve already seen the big, colorful decals and t-shirts (if you haven’t, go to the “Official Retic Life Gear” link at the top of this page and check them out!), and those were created to give us some really cool gear to wear and show off our passion, and also to get peoples attention while we’re out just doing “general public stuff”. But that’s just the very beginning of what we intend to do, and just one way we intend to support the core efforts of our company – to encourage solidarity within our community of hobbyists and professionals, and improve the public image of reptile, amphibian, and exotic pet keepers.

Already, we are working on specific events in several states, new services that will be geared specifically for us herpetology enthusiasts and professionals, and we’ve had some very encouraging responses and commitments for support from the general public, outside of the reptile/amphibian/exotic pet related industries. Great things are happening, and we are working hard to make sure we will be able to dedicate 100% of our time and resources to building a better world for all of us… and have a lot of fun doing it.

We will continue to update this site as we move forward, so make sure you check back often!
